John Walter Johnson, Jr. 80, of Rochester, New York, passed away on October 14, 2023 of natural causes.
John was born on November 28, 1942 to John Walter Johnson, Sr. and Geneva Mae Johnson in Denmark, South Carolina.
John took much pride in all he did. No matter if it was on the job or simply socializing with family and friends. John attended Washington Junior High School where he met Grace Morehead. John graduated from Edison High School in 1962. In 1963 John and Grace were married and went on to have two children, Valerie Johnson and Nakia Santos.
In 1965 John started working for Eastman Kodak. He was a Field Service Supervisor, starting his 37-year career at Kodak. John attended Pace University while working at Kodak where he earned a degree in Business Administration.
In 2002 John retired from Eastman Kodak. In his retired years he continued to enjoy his favorite sports on television such as basketball and football, both of which he played in High School. He also enjoyed bowling. He was a member of several bowling leagues. John was a very dapper dresser. He loved his specially designed suits, shoes, other clothing and jewelry. John was somewhat of a musical connoisseur. He was very passionate when it came to his music and reading. His music collection was primarily comprised of Jazz and R&B vinyl. He absolutely loved African American literature. His music and book collection were nothing short of amazing.
John is survived by two daughters, Valerie and Nakia. Two grand children, Sade Green-Puik and Joseph Santos and one great grandson Alexander Jereme Puik and other family members and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on January 27, 2024 at 1:00pm at Holiday City Berkeley Club House 1, 631 Jamaica Blvd., Toms River, New Jersey 08757.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to “Ronald McDonald House Charities Bay Area” or “RMHC” on behalf of John’s great grandson Alexander Jereme Puik;
