Joseph (Jody) V. Moynihan Jr.
Penfield NY, passed peacefully on October 5, 2024. at age 71 after a courageous battle with cancer. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Christine Grose-Moynihan, his son Matthew (Alison), and his daughter Margaret (Kyle). He was a doting grandfather to his adorable grandchildren, Peter, Jody, and Ryan. Joe is predeceased by his mother, Mary, his father, Joseph Sr., his brother Tim, and his stepmother, Carol.
Joe is also survived by his loving siblings, Martin, Kevin (Barbara), Claire, Sheilagh (Gary), Anne (Mauricio), Eileen (Michael), Kathleen (Bill), Patricia (David), Caroline (John), Patrick (Lisa) and several incredible nieces and nephews who will never forget the love and happiness he brought to their lives. Joe’s large family was a central part of his life. The loss of his mom, Mary, at an early age had a significant impact on him and the entire Moynihan family.
After high school, Joe enlisted in the Navy and served his country as a radioman on the island of Sicily where he became proficient in Italian and Italian culture. He returned to the States and attended RIT in business. His career was in sales and he was successful because of his gifted language ability and sense of humor.
Joe spent his spare time fixing the house or various cars, chasing after children, and reading extensively. He was an intelligent man and expressed strong opinions about politics, had an extensive knowledge of history, and the English language.
Joe could be the life of the party. He had an excellent singing voice and his impressions of Elvis and Frank Sinatra were spot on. Neighbors often commented, “When is Joe going to get his own TV show?” The Thousand Islands were a big part of his life having grown up at TI Park on Wellesley Island with the Moynihan Clan every summer where he enjoyed golfing, countless dinners, and, raucous parties.
His advice to his kids, “Always keep your feet dry” and ” Although life is a bitch, it is worse if you make stupid choices.”
Joe’s life was filled with joy and laughter for his family and friends; especially his grandkids. This showed in everything he did and he did it with gusto. He was a one-of-a-kind friend, husband, and father, and will be missed by so many. Our hearts are breaking.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you give to a charity of your choice in his name. A celebration of his life is planned for the Spring.
Joe was truly a memorable individual. His humor, intelligence, and gift of language were just some of his many talents. I know he was loved by so many. My heart goes out to Chris, Matt, Maggie and the Moynihan siblings.

Probably the most magical Moynihan Xmas Eve I can remember as a 10 year old! For years my family went to the Moynihans house on 191 Seneca Parkway to celebrate! Later on this night it started to snow and at midnight the Moynihans and Loewenguth’s went out on their front porch at midnight to enjoy this sudden beautiful snowfall that was coming down!!! It was going to be a white xmas! It was beautiful!
Then Jody took Xmas eve to next level…
All of a sudden Jody suprisingly started lighting off M80 firecrackers throughout the Moynihan front lawn!!! It got loud, it got bright, it was magical!!!

So sorry for your lose. My heart goes out to you and your family. I will keep you in my prayers.
I had no idea Joe was sick. Chris and Joe became my instant friends and landlords when I moved back to the city in the 80’s. We had some wonderful times on Parsells Ave. He was always the life of the party (“Return to sender” among his other crazy ballads). I’ll always remember Joe fondly and with a smile.
Warren and I are so very sorry for this tremendous loss. Joe was such a character and we have many fond memories of parties, Euchre and laughs over the years. Godspeed, Joe. Sending love and comfort to his forever love, Chris and his much loved children.

My condolences on Joe’s passing. Though we haven’t seen each other in years, I’ll always remember the times I spent up there as a kid, in no small part due to Joe’s boisterous nature. You all are in my thoughts.
So sorry to hear of Jody’s passing. So many memories of the Moynihans, Costellos and Craigs. He sure had a gift of quick irish wit. RIP Jody.
Humor, love for his family, and the best Elvis impersonator ever! Joe was always fun to be around and Ted and I will treasure the good times we enjoyed together! RIP Joe, you were loved.
