Margherita Ann (Ruspantini) Pompeii was born in Binghamton, New York on February 24, 1927 and died on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at 92 years of age.
She is predeceased by her husband, Fred, sons Mark and Gerard. Survived by children Celeste (David) Mercandetti; Monica, Matthew, Theresa (Pompeii) Bogart, Paul (Rhonda), and Peter Pompeii; grandchildren Adam (Sonja) and Alaina Mercandetti, Erica Bogart; brothers John (Tina) and Tony (Marianne) Ruspantini; nieces, nephews, and eight great-grandchildren.
A member of Blessed Sacrament Church since 1960, Margherita had a great love of inspirational reading, music, and world events. She played the piano, and enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening. She was a saintly person totally devoted to God, husband and family, with Catholic principles. She also was a very comforting and protective parent.
She always demonstrated a strong work ethic, both in running the family home and whenever she was employed. She worked from home as a dedicated saleswoman for St. Anthony messenger magazine for 15 years before retiring. In the late 1940s, after a secretarial job at an insurance company in Binghamton, she devoted her life to her husband, Fred, for 58 years, and her children.
There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, 11 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Church, 534 Oxford Street, 14607. The family will receive friends following Mass. Margherita’s Graveside Service will follow at 1 p.m. at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery (Please meet family at the Lake Avenue Gate of the Cemetery).
