Marie Delores McDowell - PIttsford, NY - Rochester Cremation

Marie Delores McDowell also affectionately known as “Dempie” passed away on August 20, 2020 at the age of 81, residing at the Highlands Living Center in Pittsford, NY.

Marie was born on November 16, 1938 in Bradenton, Florida to Robert Demps and Thelma Reed.

In the early 60’s, Marie moved to Rochester, NY where she pursued a nursing career through the Isabella Graham Heart School of Nursing.   Throughout her nursing career, she worked at several senior living centers and hospitals in the Rochester area.  The majority of Marie’s career was spent at Mt. Hope Episcopal Church Home, where she loved serving the elderly as well as maintaining relationships with her co-workers. Marie retired from St. John’s Senior Living Center after dedicating more than thirty years of nursing service.

Marie married Matthew McDowell on January 3, 1979.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Matthew McDowell of 36 years.  She leaves to cherish her memory four children:  Barton C. Shuler, Sr (Tara) of Creedmoor, NC; Sharlene Denese McDowell of Rochester, NY; Timothy McDowell of Delaware; and Tyrone McDowell of Rochester, NY.  She has five grandchildren: Bart C. Shuler, Jr, Marshae McDowell, Shayla Shuler, Aiden and Ava McDowell. She also has two great-grandchildren:  Daziah Shuler, and Londyn Shuler.

Marie was beloved by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Some of Marie’s passions were music, dancing, and travel. She loved gardening and cooking.

The family extends sincere gratitude to the staff of the Highlands Living Center for taking excellent care of our beloved Marie for the past 4 years.
