Marilyn Diana York Montana (February 1, 1944 – November 18, 2023)
Marilyn Diana York Montana, a cherished partner, devoted mother, and doting grandmother to all, passed away on November 18, 2023. Marilyn’s zest for life, her love for travel, and her devotion to family will be forever remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her adventures took her far and wide, creating memories and experiences that she held close to her heart.
Born on February 1, 1944, to Woodrow and Anna York, Marilyn lived a life enriched by her passion for exploring new horizons. She is survived by siblings, Shirley (Floyd) Hanselman, Donald (Jessie) York , David (Judy) York, and Barbara (Pat) Hahnel-Gabrielli (predeceased). As Aunt Marilyn, she was a source of joy and entertainment in their children’s lives.
Marilyn is survived by her partner, Richard Bagley, who shared in her life’s adventures and brought immense happiness into her world. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Rachelle (Marc) Palmaffy (predeceased), Karen (Chris) Schaeffer, Stephanie (John) Merkel, Philip (Kerri) Montana, Melissa (Gary O’Neal) Montana, and Derrick Montana. Her nine grandchildren were a source of immeasurable joy, and her love for them knew no bounds.
It was Marilyn’s wish to have family and friends celebrate her life in their own personal way and have her ashes scattered in Monument Valley. A special place she and Richard visited often.
I’m so sorry for your loss. She always put a smile on my face. She was such a unique personality. Many people don’t know how smart she was. She could keep up with the best of them, on ANY subject!! I know she will be missed by many, but I’m sure she is with her God. I wish for her pease and contentment. There are so many adventures we had together, as little brats, growing up in East Rochester. Especially when her Uncle Mike would let the bunch of us take his car. We were 14-15 yrs. old. What was he thinking😂 the angels won’t know what hit them!!! Rest in peace, dear friend🙏🙏❤️❤️
We will miss this zany lady; as a sister and sister-in-law, she was funny, extremely intelligent and always energetic!.. but most of all because she had a good heart.
Early memories or her making sure her children were involved in as many activities available to suit their personalities as she could manage.. and of course get involved herself😊!
Her affection for our kids ( and grandkids ) was special.
Marilyn was actively involved in demonstrating love to our son , daughter-law and their son as they have journeyed through the years of a serious illness.
When we saw her recently, despite pain and an inability to speak clearly she bought up all the stories and anecdotes of our times together… even verbatim conversations.. what a memory!
Whatever Marilyn Diana Montana did she did it with all of her heart… and it was a good one! ❤️

We will miss that zany lady,; as a sister and a sister-in-law, for her humor , high intelligence and high energy.
She was interested in everything…..and as a Mom made sure her kids were signed up for any, and all, enriching activities to advance their talents.. Of course she would get involved too! Always a kid at heart!
Marilyn had a sincere interest in our kids and grandkids. On a recent visit with her she recalled funny stories and conversations with them in such detail , even though she was in pain and it was hard for her to speak. What a memory she had!
She showed a special love for Zev, Fiona and Zachary as they have journeyed through a serious illness; sending spontaneous cards and gifts.
Whatever Marilyn Diana Montana did, she did it with all of her heart… and it was a good one❤️.
Love and sympathy to all the family,
David and Judy York
