High school graduate of Roanoke Catholic High School in Roanoke VA, Registered Nursing Diploma from Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing (now Jefferson College of Health Science), BA in nursing from Old Dominion University in Norfolk VA, MA of Education in Nursing Administration from Columbia University Teachers College in New York City NY.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Nurse in US Navy, worked at various Veterans Administration for 32 years. Worked for Visiting Nurse Services and Lifetime Care. Guest lecturer at Finger Lakes Community College, Volunteered at FLCC, Friendly Home of Rochester, Sojourner House, Mercy Community Services, Catholic Family Center and is a Associate of the Sisters of Mercy.
Predeceased by parents Opie Elijah Slate of Mt. Airy, NC and Elsie Mae Buck Slate of Vinton Va. Survived by husband of 37 years Guy Winston McLean originally of Memphis TN, sister Martha Ellen Slate Heck and niece Toni Michelle Heck Webster of Vinton Virginia, her children Theresa Rose Clemonds Irondequoit NY, Jason LeMont Clemonds (Diane Ryclak) Downingtown PA, Jonathan Michael McLean Penfield NY, Denis Louis Rochester NY and granddaughter Madison Paige Clemonds of Downingtown PA. Special young friends Shannon, Arianna, Harrison, Lawson, Isabelle, Lilly, Michayella, Albertine and Tianna.
Her Funeral Mass will be Celebrated, Saturday March 5th, 10am at Sisters of Mercy 1437 Blossom Rd. Rochester, NY, reception to follow at The Assisi Institute 1400 North Winton Rd. Granddaughter Madison has asked that everyone wear bright colors that day to celebrate her Mamaws life.
