Your photo captured the spirit we loved and the memory we will keep. While his love and legacy lives on with your family, I find moments to remember him in my home, too, as he chipped away at cleaning up and construction after our house fire. Our sadness is evidence of good memories- his caustic wit, genuine smile, pleasure with simple things- a summer night campfire, some good blues music, verbal sparring with all of us, the laughter of his grandchildren, and of course, the catch of a good wave in Cape May. No one else can call me the “Witch on the Hill” (or other variations of that theme!) and I will miss it.
Ron and I will miss him and will find comfort in seeing his adult children, and grandchildren live their lives with endurance, ingenuity, creativity and spunk!

Mr. Larew was an integral part of the EHS marching band family and his spirit will not be forgotten. He will be remembered as a dedicated member of the pit crew, father of three talented musicians, and cheerleader to all his kids friends. We were blessed to know him during our high school years. May he rest in peace.
I hadn’t seen Gerry in years but had the good fortune to run into Dave this past summer. Gerry left a fine legacy to carry on after him. Rest in peace
Great basketball player
Just last week I was sharing memories of the Larew family with my husband. By chance I saw Gerry about 4 years ago & we spent time “catching up” about our families.
I met Gerry when we were both 11 years old. He was my neighbor. His sister Janee was my best friend. We shared school, church & choir & many friends throughout our late teenage years. Gerry sang like an angel mesmerizing us in choir with his soprano vocal ranges. I recall him being a typical kid joining me & his sister’s jump roping in the driveway, putting on a neighborhood Halloween “fright room” in their basement, & once trying to jump a wrought iron fence but misjudging & landing on one of its pointed spikes! He was an intelligent student, gifted artist, music lover, proud father & devoted husband. He adopted his mother’s love for all that Cape May, N J offered often making it a vacation destination. My sincere condolences to Rita, his children, grandchildren, Janee, relatives & all those who loved him.
Sorry for your loss there is simply nothing else a person can say. We may not get along but you are still family & I understand the pain of loss. To you children as you may or may not know We lost our Dad suddenly in 2014 @ 76YO 2 days before TG so I do understand. The pain will fade. It will no longer feel like a punch in the chest. You Will breath deeply again but there will always be a little hole in your life/heart for the Dad who can no longer answer your questions. The all important stuff like what size is this bolt without trying a socket on it, or should I do this A or B way, or just realizing you could get things done so much faster just because he was watching the dog/kids or anticipating & getting you the next tool/ part you needed or just holding something steady or bringing you a drink of water or helping you clean up. I will pray for you all.
I have absolutely no idea what to say. Gerry has been a part of my life since the YMCA days back in high school. He cut my hair for years and was our electrician of choice. I was so glad he met and married Rita – what a great addition to his life. Thankfully he had family close and involved in his life. Even though we haven’t connected in a while I will always carry him and his family in my heart.
Rita, I am so sorry to hear this sad news. I know you told me recently at Wegman’s that Gerry was dealing with some health issues. Tiina remembers him working on our house after our upstairs bathroom flood disaster many years ago. He did an excellent job helping us to make some great improvements to our kitchen and dining room. The man had skills! I would frequently run into Gerry at Wegman’s or Home Depot over the years & catch up on the Hasenauer’s. You and your family are in our thoughts & prayers during these difficult times. That is a really great picture of him.
Love,
Tim & Tiina
Dear Rita, I just found out about Gerry’s passing. I was in shock to say the least. Gerry and I were best friends all through high school and for some time after. We did everything together at the YMCA, in Hi-Y, at Camp Arrowhead, double dating and later renting a house with three other friends. I have some very wonderful memories of those days. I was so happy that he met and married you Rita. He needed a strong woman and a beautiful spirit like you and you made him happy. We haven’t seen each other in many years but I thought about him often. May the good Lord rest his soul. I am saddened by his passing but I’m so glad that we shared so much life together..
