Mary Eggleston - Rochester, NY - Rochester Cremation

Rochester, NY: April 5, 2020 at age 91.

Survived by her husband Jim Eggleston, son Mark Sampson, daughter Robin Sampson, stepsons Keith and Mark Eggleston, and stepdaughter Ann Marie Leader; sixteen beloved grandchildren and four treasured great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by husband, Robert J. Sampson, daughter Christina Sampson, and brother John W. Sewell.

Mary was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, to William and Hilda Sewell, who emigrated from England. She graduated from Delmar (NY) High School, attended RIT, and there earned a degree in Art in 1949. She married Robert J. Sampson in 1950. Wife, mother, homemaker, and always an artist, she raised her three children in Greece, NY, and worked as a teacher’s aide in the Greece Central School District for twenty years.   Following Mr. Sampson’s death, she met and married Jim Eggleston of Chili, NY, and enjoyed 38 years of loving marriage. Mary was active in the community, working with Literacy Volunteers, March of Dimes, and was a long-time member of both the Suburban Art Group and the Chili Art Group. Her paintings, mostly watercolors of the New York landscape, have been widely exhibited and are part of numerous private collections.  Mary’s kind, thoughtful personality was enjoyed by all she met, and her family will greatly miss her loving support.

Funeral arrangements are private; a memorial service will be held at a future date.

Mark and Robin, I just came across this news regarding your Mom. I want to express my sincere condolences. Your Mom was such a wonderful woman who I have very fond/happy memories of as we all grew up in Rochester. I was also surprised and sorry to read in your Mom’s obituary about Christy’s passing as well. Just FYI, my sister Judy also passed 5 years ago (March 4th 2015) in Buffalo. My prayers and best wishes to you both: Jim Finnegan
