Rochester, NY:  June 5, 2019.  Predeceased by husband, Richard T. Carey; parents, John and Harriet (McCall) Sullivan; siblings, Msgr. Joseph J. Sullivan, George J. Sullivan; John B. Sullivan, Edward Sullivan, Rev. Leo A. Sullivan, Bernard P. Sullivan. Survived by nephews: Thomas (Kim) Sullivan of Baltimore, MD, and Jerome (Lois) Sullivan of Olean, NY; nieces: Sharon (Sullivan) Thayer of Raleigh, NC, Patricia Sullivan of Syracuse, NY; sister-in-law Mia Sullivan of Toronto, Canada; great nephews and nieces, great-great nephews and nieces, and many friends. Mary graduated from Our Lady of Mercy H S, Class of ’43, and Rochester Bus. Inst.. She served for 30 years as Chief Clerk, US Bankruptcy Court in Rochester. Mary was Rochester Women’s City Speed Skating Champion in the 1940s, and actively engaged in golf and swimming well into her 80s.

In retirement Mary volunteered for the sisters of St. Joseph, and as an ombudsman for the Council on Aging in nursing homes/retirement communities. She worked for Visiting Nurse Service caring for patients for several years. Mary loved all things Irish and visited Ireland four times. Mary and Richard traveled extensively, especially on cruises. Mary was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. She was past president of the Monroe County Legal Secretaries Assn. and was a past resident of St. John’s Meadows. Contributions in Mary’s honor welcome by the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy High School, and the Sisters of St. Joseph.
