Bloomfield, NY:  A strong woman, devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015, peacefully at St. Anne’s Home, Rochester, New York with family by her side.

Mary Joyce is survived by her loyal husband of 58 1/2 years William W. Phelan.  Children Scot (John) Phelan, Todd Phelan, Timothy (Linda) Phelan and Cynthia (Doug) Guillaume and grandchildren Elijah (Hannah), Joshua and Abigal Guillaume, great grandchildren Kaden and Sophia Guillaume.  Sister Sandra  Stanley, cousin Marilyn Guss (MI).  Survived by Dear Friends Cookie Siedal (CA), Joanna and Dennis Margurite (MA), Karen DeMauric (NY), Joan Herrington (NY), Peter Nyberg (MA), Whitney DeGroat (NY) and Zack Zimmerman (OR).

Despite years of unimaginable pain and various health issues, Mary Joyce managed to live at the home on the family Stable in Bloomfield NY until this past April when her final battle began.  Her journey was truly remarkable one of love, strength and a desire to live.  She “defied the odds” many times over the course of her illness, a testament to her strength and vibrant personality  and never losing her sense of style, humor or dignity.  A “go getter” Mary Joyce was involved in garden, art, woman’s and historical societies, as well, as being a long time youth leader of the Finger Lakes Arabian Horse Association.

If  anyone would like to honor Mary Joyce’s memory – donate to your favorite charity, help a child, be kind to animals, be a good friend, and live life to its fullest.  A special thank you to the staff on 4 West of Highland Hospital.  Thank you to St. Anne’s Home and the staff on the 6th floor for the compassion that was shown.

Arrangements are being held privately by the family.

    Dear Phelan Family:

I think you all know how much I loved your Mom, Grandmom etc. We spent some real glorious days together. I had just visited with her a few days before her passing and we had great conversation. Scott, I think you know how much she will be missed by not only all of you but by her friends also. My deepest sympathy goes out to you and the family. Goodbye “Thelma” til we meet again. Always remember the happy times and how much she loved her family. That would be what she would want…
