Michele “Shelly” Smoke

Michele Smoke - Rochester, NY - Rochester Cremation

Rochester, NY:  January 30, 1967-September 25, 2020

Shelly entered this world as the youngest of four; surrounded by two loving brothers and a devoted sister. She had legs for days and a spirit to match. Her vibrance was unparalleled, her sense of humor riotous. All who met her can attest to her contagious laugh, often at the expense of those around her. She loved so deeply. She was unflagging in her support and devotion for all of her people.

In 2018, she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and Breast Cancer.  She  rose to fight cancer like an amazon warrior. No matter what the day brought, she never lost that trademark humor. She left an indelible mark upon this world. Even in her darkest moment, she ceaselessly inspired incandescent joy and laughter, even with something as frivolous as a comical headband.

She was met in passing by her mother, Judith Burns, her father, Ronald Burns, and her cherished dog, Shawnee Summer Smoke.

Her legacy carries on in her soulmate and Husband of 30 years, James “Jimmy” Smoke and her beloved son, James “Jim” Smoke Jr. Her siblings : Patricia and Joe Cupido, Guy Burns, and Scott and Bonnie Burns. Her nieces and nephews: Matthew and Jessica Cupido, Stephany Burns, Amanda Cupido, Megan and Leslie Talbott, Amanda Burns, Seth Burns and Joshua Burns. Her great-niece, Isabella Cupido, and great-nephew, Leonardo Cupido. Shelly has many dear friends who became part of her family.

Shelly will be missed by all who had the honor to know her. We will always be #shellystrong.

Graveside service at White Haven Memorial Park on Wednesday, September 30th at 1pm with a celebration of life immediately to follow at the Moose Lodge, 5375 West Henrietta Rd, West Henrietta, NY 14586.

I am so sorry to hear about Shelly’s passing. I knew her as the sister of my best friend Scott in the early 1980’s; however, she was always engaging. Although our paths never crossed again once our father’s received military orders, I will always remember her as a free spirit. My deepest condolences to the Burns and Smoke family.
