Paul Michael Gendreau

Paul Michael Gendreau - Rochester Cremation

Paul Gendreau of Ronkonkoma, NY passed away on August 11, 2022, at age 44, in his new hometown of Rochester following a 2-year courageous fight against small-cell lung cancer.   Paul is survived by his dedicated husband, Dan; they shared a deep love for 25 years.  He is survived by his loving mother Dottie, who supported and stayed by him throughout life, and is predeceased by his father Leo.  Paul is also survived by parents Maureen and Wayne Connor, brothers and sisters, Keith, Tim, Stephanie, Amanda, Annette, and “Scuba” Steve.  He is survived by nieces and nephews, Layla Ann, Cadence Colleen, Daniel Richard, and Charlotte Rose.

Paul was a unique man who forged his own path embracing all that is different.  He was an exemplar for others to express their true selves unapologetically.  When Paul was diagnosed with terminal cancer, his first words were “I’ve had a good life”.  Paul loved adventure!  One of his proudest accomplishments was becoming a certified Rescue Diver.  Paul and Dan travelled the world together, scuba diving with sharks and into shipwrecks, skydiving, caving, safari, and kayaking.  He had strong creative passions and a great talent for music, videography, and the horror genre.  Paul is survived by best friends Jancine, Adam, and Steve with whom he shared these passions.

Paul wished not to be mourned in death, but for his loved ones to celebrate his life.  A celebration in his honor will be held on Long Island; arrangements to be made in the coming weeks.  Eternal gratitude to his wonderful caregivers, Dr. Mulford, Caitlin, Lainey, Kristen, Jennifer, and so many others who deserve our support to provide the same amazing care to others that Paul was so fortunate to receive.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in his honor to the University of Rochester Wilmot Cancer Center: https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/cancer-institute/giving/ways-to-give.aspx
