Peter S. Koenig, Sr. passed away Sunday, June 27th after a brief illness, at the age of 86. Mr. Koenig was born in Pikeville, Kentucky, and grew up in Grove City, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Grove City High School, and later from Grove City College after also attending Ohio University. He moved to DeWitt in 1961 with his wife Mary Lou, and son Peter, Jr., when at that time he was a salesman for Parke-Davis & Co. In 1967, he joined Community General Hospital as an administrative assistant, and ended his career there in 1996 as Director of Medical Administrative Services. He later served as a member of the Administrative Review Board for the New York State Department of Health Office of Professional Medical Conduct. Mr. Koenig was also active in the Presbyterian Church, serving with the Synod of the Northeast as a commissioner, vice-president, and then president of the Board of Trustees, and member of the Budget and Finance and Investment Review Committees. He also served on the Board of Trustees for the Stony Point Conference Center, and is a former Chairman of the Board at Westminster Manor in Auburn.
Mr. Koenig was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Mary Lou (Herbst), who passed away in 2017, and daughter-in-law Kirsten Koenig, who passed away in 2020. He is survived by son Peter S. Koenig, Jr. of Rochester, NY; a daughter Heidi and son-in-law Robert Hagaman of Davenport, Iowa; and son Matthew. In addition, he is survived by grandsons Peter S. Koenig, III, Andrew O. Koenig, and Thomas Hagaman; granddaughter Katherine E. Hagaman; and great-grandson Peter S. Koenig IV.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 31st , at Pebble Hill Presbyterian Church, 5299 Jamesville Road, DeWitt. A reception at the church will follow the service.
