ROCHESTER, NY
Robert G. Gifford, born on March 24, 1952, unexpectedly passed away on June 15, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy, and their children, Amy and Andrew.
Robert had a deep passion for animals. He leaves behind his beloved four pet turtles, his dog Skai, and two cats. Throughout the years, he cared for countless other creatures-raccoons, bunnies, squirrels, mice, birds, and even foxes, which he considered a part of his duties as neighborhood watch.
He reveled in oldies rock concerts, collecting vinyl records, watching professional wrestling, and was an enthusiastic story-teller. As a multi-instrumentalist, he played accordion in neighborhood parades, and often recounted piano-playing with Up With People.
Robert was a dedicated teacher who inspired countless students.
In addition to his family, Robert leaves behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and a zest for life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations and sponsorships can be made through the Prehistoric World Reptile Zoo in Perry, NY.
Robert’s funeral will be held Friday, June 28, 11:00 AM at St. Mark’s Church, 54 Kuhn Rd, Rochester (Greece), NY 14612.
What a wonderful life story. Amy, you truly are your father’s daughter. Sending love to you and your family during this difficult time.
What an eclectic life he led.
Prayers to all of you for strength during this time.
Beautifully describes Bob, Amy. I was so lucky to serve with him on our Grand View Beach Association board for many years, leading to a friendship which I miss deeply. As Neighborhood Watch, he and Skai would walk along Edgemere Drive at night, reporting any suspicious behavior to GPD, but also enjoying the nighttime wildlife we share our neighborhood with. Not only would he report that at our neighborhood meetings, but I would wake up in the mornings, log on to my computer, and there would be Bob’s email telling me all about the animals he encountered that night. We shared these stories for years, and I still half expect to see Bob’s email when I get up, just to be reminded that he is no longer here. Bob was quite a fun story teller! To be sure, he won’t be forgotten.
There is so much more about Bob that I will miss, as we all will. Ann, Amy, and Andrew were his highest priority, and it was inspiring to hear him tell of the joy they brought him. Rest peacefully, Bob. You leave a legacy of kindness.
Bob will be missed on Edgemere. I looked forward to running into him on my dog walks. Always friends and kind. I know he’ll continue to watch our neighborhood for us up in heaven. Praying for all of you.
