Robert Guimond Lewis, 80, of Rochester, NY sadly passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, following a brief illness.
He was born in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada, to the late Albert and Anysie Guimond. The family of 10 siblings lived in the border town of Frenchville, ME. Robert was very proud of
his French heritage and of his command of the language. One of his favorite travel spots was Quebec City, where he would visit his sister, bring friends and enjoy exploring the arts communities, the French culture of the city, its foods, and festivals.
Robert was the fifth son born in his loving family of ten children. He was preceded in death by his parents and his four older brothers; Leon, Kenneth, Phillip, and Raymond. He is survived by his younger siblings; Claire Guimond Dobert, Michelle Guimond Wolff and her husband Miles of Durham, NC, Patrice Guimond and wife Mildred of Verona Island, ME, Maurice Guimond and wife Betsy of Barrington, NH; Suzelle Guimond of Waterville, ME, plus many nieces and nephews. Bob loved his big family, immediate and extended, including the Manzi family in Rochester, NY. He will be missed by all!
Bob had a great sense of humor, always trying to make others laugh… He loved an engaging and probing conversation more than anything. He was curious and open minded. He was a natural at mentoring, teaching, and coaching. This is what he did with family, friends, and professional associates. He received his BS degree from the University of Maine in Fort Kent, followed by a MA in
English Literature from University of Maine, Orono. He found his home in Rochester, NY starting in 1970 where he became principal owner of area ManPower offices until 2002. His entrepreneurial spirit and passion then drove him to develop his consulting and life coaching enterprises. Bob embraced his community and so served on many boards and committees including but not limited to Rochester Rotary, Wesley Nursing Home and Rehab Center, Rochester Chamber of Commerce, and Regional Child Care Council. He was also a member of the Spiritus Christi Church.
He will be remembered for his leadership skills, his jovial ( happy go lucky) nature, his engaging and insightful conversations, his love and dedication to family, many long time cherished friends, and his community. He was unique and special.
A celebration of life will be held at the Spiritus Christi Church, 121 Fitzhugh St N., Rochester, NY 14614, on Saturday June 29th at 10:00AM.
