Sarah Genung Johnson passed away peacefully on September 27, 2022 in Rochester, NY. Sarah is predeceased by her beloved husband, James Henry Johnson, architect. She is survived by her four daughters, their spouses, and grandchildren Fritz, Henry, Madeline, Genevieve, Juliana, and Stefan.

Sarah was born and raised in Springfield, MO. She attended the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma where she studied music and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She and her husband lived in Alexandria, VA for a couple of years before moving to Rochester for her to attend the Eastman School of Music to pursue her Master’s degree. She was a cellist with the Rochester Philharmonic for several years before having her daughters. She continued her musical career with the Hanshaw Trio, Young Audiences, and serving as the first cellist of the Penfield Symphony Orchestra for 10 years. She imparted her love of music to many by teaching privately and in public schools. She enjoyed traveling, attending plays, and staying active with local musical organizations and her sorority.

Donations can be made to Eastman School of Music or Geva. Services will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022, at 1:00pm at Asbury Methodist Church.
