Thomas Charles Wheeler, 61, of Rochester NY passed away on March 23, 2022 following a long illness.Tom was born on May 18, 1960 to Wesley and Audrey Wheeler in Rochester NY. Tom graduated from Irondequoit High School in 1978, then attended SUNY at Morrisville. He worked as a machinist and was more recently employed by the City of Rochester in Environmental Services.
Tom is predeceased by his parents, and is survived by his sisters, Jody McLean and Susan De Rooy, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was much loved by his many friends and neighbors, who could always count on Tom to offer joyful companionship and a helping hand, and his impact lives on in their fond memories of time well spent in his company. Tom loved animals and the outdoors, and spent much of his time in the company of both. In his final days a small group of devoted friends and caregivers helped ease his final transition.
An informal remembrance of Tom will be held in Durand Eastman Park (meeting at the Magnolia Shelter) from 2:00 – 3:00pm on Sunday, May 22, 2022. In lieu of flowers, please offer donations to WXXI or a favorite animal rescue charity of your choice.
Tom was the sweetest and kindest soul ! He was a great friend and co-worker. He always made us laugh with his witty dry humor .We are heartbroken at his passing. He will be greatly missed.
It was an honor to know this humble, humorous, kind, gentle man. Altho only for a short time..I feel like Ive known him for a life time. I am amazed at his “circle” of friends. I will miss him. Rest in peace sweet soul…”Wish You were here” but celebrate that you are finally free.
