Yu Rong Song - Rochester Cremation

Yu Rong Song of Rochester, NY passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024. Yu Rong was a strong and brave woman. She lived a long and challenging life. She was born in Shanghai on September 6, 1931, where she grew up and lived through turbulent and hostile times. She not only survived the hardships of what life threw at her, but thrived in spite of them, eventually becoming a physician and a general surgeon during a period of political turmoil in China. Yu Rong dedicated her life to medicine and helping others, working at Beijing People’s Hospital for many years where she saved countless lives and helped the healing of many people and their families. She was forced into an early retirement from being a surgeon due to a battle with breast cancer, but that was only the start of her next chapter in life.

In her retirement, despite facing many health issues, she brought her younger son to America in 1984 with very little money. She started a laborious life as a first-generation immigrant working several jobs as a home aide in order to maintain a living and raise her son. In the last fifteen – twenty years, she had to battle through many additional ailments before she passed away at the age of 93. The family like to thank all the staff at MCH for taking care of her over the pass 6+ years. She is survived by two brothers, two sisters, two sons, two daughters-in-law, and four grandchildren.
