ROCHESTER, NY: August 29, 2023 at age 28. Zachary is survived by his daughter, Amelia Johnson; parents Pam Freeman and Robert (Jenna) Johnson; sister Kaitlyn (Russ) Hedberg, nephew Oliver Hedberg and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Zachary was often known as the “Mayor” due to his ability to converse with whoever he was talking with and on any subject. He had a huge heart, always willing to help anybody at anytime and for any reason.
Zach fought addiction for many years, for the sake of his family and his beautiful daughter Amelia. He often supported individuals battling this same disease, whether lending an ear to simply listen to their struggles or sharing his own painful struggles. Despite setbacks, Zach continued to fight until the devastating day when he could no longer fight the disease that is addiction. Too many young people today are losing their life to this terrible epidemic. Let Zach’s passing be a reminder for all of us that we need to fight for each other and fight this devastating epidemic.
Thanks to the Spiritus Christi Church and all those that supported Zach on his journey. Please send donations to Spiritus Christi Church https://www.spirituschristiprisonoutreach.org/donate or to the GoFundMe site for Amelia Johnson’s 529 Account (https://gofund.me/3798038d).

Cousin Gail
My deepest condolences to Zach’s daughter and his entire family. I had the pleasure of meeting Zach a year ago in our recovery house. We’ve kept in touch throughout this time and became closer these last couple months. He was always full of joy and very caring. May he be at peace now.
Pam, Katie, Bob, and Amelia: I am so saddened to hear of Zach’s passing. I know he struggled for years and all of you struggled along with him. May God carry all of you as you move through your pain and loss. Prayers and peace for all of you.
Bob and Jenna,
I am so sorry to hear of your devastating loss. There are no words and I pray the good Lord comforts you in some way. Please feel free to call me if you would like to talk. My stepson was killed by a drunk driver in 2009 and there is nothing worse and I am so sorry💔
Bob and Jenna,
Please accept my humble condolences on your loss. My heart hurts for you. May God bless you. There’s no more pain in heaven. I hope in time you heal.
I am so sorry for your loss. My heart breaks for you all. 💔 he had so much going for him.
So sorry for the whole Johnson family. Zach was an amazing person. Unfortunately I had to distance myself from him and even last week he reached out again and we chatted a little. I’ll miss all the times we had and remember every single time we did some dumb stuff in high school or even after just hanging out. RIP brother
Pam, Katie, Amelia – I am so sorry for your loss. Pam no mother should feel your pain. You were the one Zach always knew he could count on you, that you loved him more than your own life, it didn’t matter how many times he needed you, you were the “one” always there for him, your love never waiver and he knew in his darkest moments he was loved by you. I pray he is at peace and with time your heart will find peace also. Every child should have a mother as devoted as you were, you were always stronger than the addiction that was holding him, you fought for him and above all loved him with a huge loving heart. My prayer is with you and Katie that you will find some peace and healing.
God Bless you all.
Pam, this is simply the most heartfelt notice, beautiful in its honesty. Saying I’m Sorry for your loss doesn’t begin to express how I feel for you and your family. You fought so hard for and with Zach!! Praying for you all 🙏🏼 💔
Bob & Jenna,
So sorry for your loss, we are keeping you in our thoughts and hearts.
