Rochester, NY – April 26, 2024 at age 92. Gil is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Virginia C. Branson (nee Zamorek). He was a devoted father to Desiree’ (Rudolph) Branson; cherished son of the late Levi and Mary Elizabeth Branson; brother of the late Jayne, Polly, Mary, Ruth and Joe Branson.

Gil was born in Buffalo, NY. He attended Lafayette High School and was an active member of the Westside Rowing Club. He also went to Muskingum University in Ohio where he played football. In 1952 he enlisted and became a proud Veteran of the United States 5th Airforce, 1 st Comm. Squad; Korean War. He played guard (#40) with the Southern Conference Air Force Japan Champions, Nagoya “Comets”. He shared these and other memories with friends in years to come at the reunion events across the country. Upon return home from the military he worked for Bell Aircraft Corporation and later retired as a manufacturing engineer manager from LTV Corp., Sierra Research Division, Buffalo, NY. In 1957 Gil met the love of his life, Virginia, one night at Duff’s in Buffalo and nothing would be the same – marrying on September 27, 1958. They had a beautiful, devoted life together and shared many joyful moments with their daughter on family trips or just sharing a sunset on Buffalo’s waterfront. Gil enjoyed bowling, golfing, watching the Buffalo Bills, playing cards with friends and having a fun evening at the casino. Gil was an active member of the Leonard Post 6251 VFW and attended many functions at the Town of Cheektowaga Senior Center.

A memorial service and mass will be held for Gilbert and Virginia at the St. John Fisher University, Hermance Family Chapel in Rochester, NY on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 10:00 am – family and friends invited.
