Rochester, NY – Mac Hargrave – adored son and grandson, beloved brother, doting uncle and godfather, loyal friend, cousin, and nephew – died unexpectedly on June 27, 2020 at the age of 36.
He is survived by his parents, Nancy and Thomas “Tim” J. Hargrave III; siblings, Emily and Chris Brodhead, and Samuel Hargrave; nephews, Hagan and Gus Brodhead; grandfather, Thomas J. Hargrave Jr.; as well as countless treasured cousins, aunts, and uncles – and, of course, the family pup, Coop. Mac is predeceased by his loving grandparents, Anne “Rooney” Hargrave, Robert and Janet Rae, and his special aunt, Cynthia Flynn.
Born October 5, 1983, Mac was raised in Rochester, NY, where he attended Penfield Central Schools. He went on to study Finance and Accounting at St. Bonaventure University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2006. Over the past decade, Mac honed his skills as a carpenter and craftsman. He was a proud perfectionist and enjoyed creating, transforming, and restoring spaces for his clients, family, and friends.
Mac was an accomplished, natural, and competitive athlete, displaying particular prowess on the baseball/softball field and golf course (boy, could he crush the ball). He found peace in nature and had an inquisitive sense of adventure. In his free time, Mac could be found seeking out a new place to fish or a trail to hike, refining his game on the links, and spending time with his closest friends. At home, Mac loved to cook. It’s easy to picture him tending the grill with a cigar in-hand, or preparing a complex meal for the people he loved. He inherited his family’s passion for music, especially his father’s talents on the drums, and looked forward to family jams and gatherings. Mac celebrated his roots and heritage.
Mac will be remembered for his hearty, contagious laugh; his secure hugs; his practical jokes and quick wit; his generous spirit; his humility; his love of road trips; his warm smile; his authenticity; and his devotion to the Cleveland Browns. Mac was profoundly loved and will be greatly missed.
His family and friends will gather at a later date to memorialize his life, legacy and spirit. In place of flowers, and for those who are able, please consider a gift in his memory to Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT.org) to help preserve the lands and waters he loved so dearly. Go Browns!
