Rochester, NY: Hipolito Hernandez, (Tingo), entered into rest on November 19, 2020 at the age of 89. He is predeceased by his wife Virginia and sons Robert, Fernando and Elston. Left to cherish his memories are his ten brothers and sisters; his children Marta (James) and Melvin, grandchildren Joshua, Leilani, Sandro, Erica, Yamalis (Jason), Jared (Cindy), Matthew (Channel), Danny, fifteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Tingo was born and raised in Moca, Puerto Rico. Here he met his loving wife Virginia and they married in 1952. In 1950 Tingo relocated to the United States mainland. He raised his young family in Brooklyn, New York. After living in Brooklyn for 24 years, he then moved with his family to Rochester, New York. He worked for the Monroe County Department of Social Services as a photographer. After many years, he retired from the department.
Tingo faithfully served his God Jehovah for 55 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His home was open to all. Tingo enjoyed playing dominoes with friends, and he especially liked watching the New York Mets play.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Hillside Nursing Home and its Hospice service for the care and compassion shown to Tingo. We give special heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff in the Seabreeze unit at Hillside Nursing Home during this difficult journey. Thank you to our family and friends who helped us during this trying time.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 28th at 5 p.m. via Zoom. Please contact Marta Sabado for more information.
Pops, I love you so much, you loved me like your own. You and Virginia will be in my heart forever….
