Rochester – Joan A. Meyer, 61, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 28, 2021.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, William E. and Geraldine M. Meyer of Castile, sister Marilyn J. Rosenthal of Denver, CO, and two nieces. She is survived by two sisters, Rosemary G. Meyer of Spencerport and Judith M. (Charles) Barcellona of Boca Raton, FL; three brothers, William T. of Portageville, Daniel J. of Denver, CO, and Nicholas E. of Washington, DC; eight nieces and nephews; and three great nieces and four great nephew.
Joan lived all of her life in Wyoming, Cattaraugus, and Monroe Counties. She will be remembered for her abiding faith in God, intense love of animals (particularly dogs), refined cooking and baking skills, creative and personal writing, simple and sustainable lifestyle, and concern for those less fortunate. Joan’s life was a testament in perseverance through various forms of adversity.
A memorial service is planned on September 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 23 Church Street in Silver Springs. Interment of ashes will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Shore Winds nursing home for Joan’s long term care and the hospice unit at Strong Memorial Hospital for their support during her final days.
