Fan Chey - Rochester Cremation

It is with love and affection that we report the passing of Fan Chey on 2/22/22. Fan Chey was born in Hangzhou China on September 20, 1935, to Tang En Bo and Jingbai Wang. As the daughter of an esteemed general in the army of the Republic of China, she lived all over China before immigrating with her mother and three siblings to the United States in 1949. She attended high school in Minnesota and received a full scholarship to college where she earned a degree in nursing. She enjoyed a distinguished nursing career that included stops at Newark Beth Israel Hospital and Graduate Hospital at University of Pennsylvania. She met a young physician, William Y. Chey, in 1957 and they married on May 21, 1959. They started their family in Philadelphia PA and moved to Rochester NY in 1971, where they have lived for the last 51 years. Fan was an avid reader, a talented investor and volunteered for many local non-profits.

She is survived by her dedicated husband (William), 4 children and their spouses (son William D. and wife Janine, daughter Donna and husband Dale, son Richard and wife Maura, daughter Laura and husband Ric), 9 grandchildren (Sam, Russell, Josie, Cameron, Brandon (pre- deceased), Megen, Paris, Wyatt, LiLi) and 2 great grandchildren (Pierce, Clark).

Fan will be remembered for her resilience, selflessness, kind heart, generous spirit, brilliant mind and always putting her family first. Just as the date of her passing was unique and memorable, so too was our beloved Abu.

A Celebration of Life in Fan’s honor will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association Rochester Chapter (P.O. Box 1008, Pittsford, NY 14534) in memory of our beloved wife, mother and friend, Fan Chey.

I did not know Fan Chey, but wish to share with her surviving husband William my sincere condolences on her passing. She surely was a positive influence on his life and his medical career. I am indebted to him for his expert and compassionate care some 30 years ago when I was experiencing serious gastric issues. His extraordinary treatment certainly affected my physical life then and may well have saved it. May her soul rest in peace.
