PENFIELD, NY– Passed away January 19, 2023, at the age of 81. Survived by her sister Nancy (Rick), brothers Tom (Terri) and John (Sandy), and many loving nieces and nephews.
The highlight of Joan’s life was being the owner/innkeeper at the Red House Country Inn outside of Watkins Glen. The Red House was a 7 room B&B that she ran with her partner Sandy Schmanke for almost 25 years. The Inn was very successful because of the constant flow of regular guests who enjoyed great hospitality and lavish breakfasts. She was a loving horsewoman, and after the sale of the Red House, she spent her time volunteering at the Never Say Never Stables, a therapeutic riding horse farm in Webster.
The family will celebrate her life at a private service. Donations in Joan’s memory may be made to Lollypop Farm.

Our thoughts are with Joan’s family and friends at this sad time.
My life has been made richer knowing and caring for this wonderful woman. We had such fun and I loved her enthusiasm when she talked about The Red House, raising her beloved Samoyans and working at the Never Say Never stables. Joan was an absolute joy and I will miss her terribly. RIP dear friend.
