John Graham Ireland - Rochester Cremation

John Graham Ireland passed away on September 2nd after a long illness. Known as a lover of animals, photography, and science, he was always a Boy Scout at heart. He was happiest camping, canoeing and taking photos.

John was born on April 6, 1949 to Leonard and Grace Ireland of Endwell, NY. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Yvonne “Bonnie” La May Ireland, sisters Karen Ireland, and Elizabeth (Marvin) Turner, daughter Erin Ireland and her wife Jessica Rykowski, and son Sean Ireland.

John graduated from Maine-Endwell Sr High, Broome Tech, and Monmouth College in IL, majoring in Bio/Medical Tech. John worked at Eastman Kodak for 27 years as a Lab Technician in CQS, as well as positions at the U of R, Highland Hospital, and Ward’s Natural Science.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sat, Oct 5th at Fellows Rd Park Lodge, in Fairport, NY, from 1 to 4 p.m. In honor of John’s love for animals, donations in his memory may be made to Rochester Veterinary Emergency Services.

    I worked with John for many years at Kodak – he was always a generous, genuine caring man – an eternal optimist with a big smile and a twinkle in his eye.

    I had the honor of working with John at Ward’s Natural Science (2012-2013), and I was always inspired by his dedication, kindness, and deep love for the natural world. His passion for animals, photography, and science was evident. John’s enthusiasm and warmth made a lasting impression on all who knew him. My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Bonnie and the rest of the family. He will be greatly missed.

    Bonnie, Erin and Sean. My deepest condolences to all of you. I will always remember my canoe trips with John. You could see the joy in his eyes the minute we started our yearly plans and the sadness when the trip was done. I have miss those times.
