Karl Hertlein, 89, passed away on September 9, 2024, in Rochester, NY. Born on April 29, 1935, Karl dedicated 38 years as an engineer at Corning Glass Works, where he contributed significantly to advancements in glass technology.
Karl proudly served in the US Army 82nd Airborne, where he exemplified the courage and resilience that defined his character. His military service remained a profound part of his identity throughout his life.
Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Karl was a master craftsman, known for his ability to build or fix anything. This skill was not just a hobby but a way of connecting with his family and friends, often helping them with various projects.
Karl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, survived by his children, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. His legacy of love, dedication, and service will live on through them.
A service to honor Karl’s life will be held at St. Mary’s Our Mother Church, 816 W Broad Street, Horseheads, NY 14845, on Monday, November 25 at 10 a.m.
