Albion/Kendall – Betty passed peacefully at her daughters home on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the age of 82. Betty leaves behind 2 daughters: Carla (Paul) Hennekey and Patricia (Terrence) Barber, 1 brother, Gary (Kathy) Rodas, 5 grandchildren: Sage (Kellie) Hennekey, Brandy (Nick) Lupo-Weinmiller, Caleb Hennekey, Ryan Fleming, and Tera Wilson, 3 great-grandchildren: Jacob, Liam, and Lucy, 2 sister-in-laws: Barb Rodas and Dorie Rodas.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Karen L Fleming, 5 brothers and sisters: Donald, Raymond, Charles, Eleanor and Barb. Brother-in-law James Corwin. Betty was the daughter of the late Walter and Lola Rodas. While growing up in the farming community of Kendall she enjoyed horseback riding and cheerleading for the boys at Kendall Central School where she graduated in 1954. After graduating, she raised her 3 girls while working at W.T.Grants and General Electric. When her girls grew and moved away she followed them to the west coast (Phoenix) where she lived and worked at American Express for many years. She returned home in the 90’s for the same reason, to be closer to her family and help her sister “Ellie” at the restaurant- The Carlton Grill. After she retired, she loved playing the slots at Batavia Downs, working in her flower gardens, attending her grand children’s activities and lending a hand to those in need (always offering a ride and sharing foods she baked or collected). But most of all, she loved entertaining her family and friends with her quirky antics, sometimes to the embarrassment of her daughters. She was truly one-of-a-kind and she will be sadly missed.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of her Life at the Carlton Fire Co. Recreational Hall (Oak Orchard Rd./Rte.98) on Sunday, November 11 at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Orleans County or Carlton Fire Dept. in Betty’s memory. She will be laid to rest beside her family in a private service at Lakeside Cemetery in Hamlin. To share a memory or send a condolence, please visit RochesterCremation.com.
