Judith “Judy” Ann Onderdonk

Bergen, NY:  May 29,1944-November 18, 2018. Predeceased by loving husband David Onderdonk, her brother David Prentice, and her parents Marlin and Velma Prentice. She left this world surrounded by friends and devoted family members: her children Amy Beth (George) Grosskopf, Laurens (Melissa) Onderdonk, and Tamalyn (Ronald) Pritchard; her seven grandchildren Katrina Grosskopf, Erika Grosskopf, Lucas Pritchard, Gina Grosskopf, Genevieve Onderdonk, Max Pritchard, and Alexander Onderdonk; and sisters Merry (Robert) Hodgson and Kathleen (Robert) Reynolds. Also survived by brothers-in-law Dan (Nancy) Onderdonk, Thomas (Kay) Onderdonk, cousins and nieces and nephews.

Judy was born in Amsterdam, NY. She was especially close to her maternal grandparents, Bertha and George Dennis, with whom she lived for a time when she was young. She graduated from Rush-Henrietta High School in 1962. She met the love of her life, David Onderdonk, in 1963,  and they were married on June 12, 1965 in Rochester, NY. They made their home in West Brighton until they and their three children moved to Kendall, NY in 1984. Judy helped support her family by running a home daycare center when her children were young, and then she went to work for the transportation department of the Monroe Developmental Center. She was an active member of her union, CSEA, where she served as secretary and then vice president of the local chapter. In her personal life, Judy was generous and industrious, and her family was her highest priority. She at various times sewed, cooked, baked, wrote stories, researched genealogy, and taught defensive driving. She made amazing themed birthday cakes like the Cookie Monster, a fire truck complete with ladders and hoses, the Starship Enterprise, and a teddy bear pool party. She was an active member of her church, for many years serving as financial secretary and president of the Living Circle women’s group. She actively supported the creation and continuation of the Hygiene Bank in her church. In recent years she and David took their dream vacations and visited family members in distant places. She spent a great deal of time with her beloved grandchildren, doing projects, providing support to their parents, and living life together. She leaves a legacy of love, patience, and perseverance.
