James Patrick Flanagan

James Patrick Flanagan - Rochester Cremation

James Patrick Flanagan, aged 90, passed away on November 13, 2024, in Rochester, NY. Born on February 5, 1934, James, affectionately known as Jim, dedicated his life to his family, his career, and his passions. James was deeply rooted in his faith and played an active role in his church, embodying the spirit of service and community. Generous to a fault, Jim gave freely to charities and was the first to offer help to family members in a time of need. Despite having no children of his own he was a wonderful Godfather and a father figure for many. Jim was a man who loved life deeply, known for being a dedicated son, brother, and uncle. He maintained close relationships with friends dating back to his grammar school days at St. Andrews and later at Aquinas Institute.
His career spanned over 40 years at Lincoln Rochester, which later became Chase Bank, where he was a respected and valued colleague. James also served honorably in the Army, completing two tours that exemplified his commitment to his country. He was a longtime member of the Henrietta Senior Center where he enjoyed playing euchre. An avid photographer with a passion for travel, James captured the world through his lens, finding beauty and intrigue in distant lands and familiar scenes alike. His love for singing was evident as his beautiful tenor voice graced several choral groups, enriching many lives with his musical talents. Perhaps his greatest love was bargain hunting, especially if a coupon was involved. Buying multiple items, whether he needed them or not was a lifelong habit Survived by his beloved sister, Joan Cannioto, 26 nieces and nephews, along with many great-nieces and nephews, James’ legacy of love and mentorship continues through them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcella Streb Flanagan and James Flanagan, along with his siblings Mary Gallipeau, Canice Karnisky, and Richard Flanagan.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday November 21, 2024 at 10:00AM at St. Marianne Cope Parish at Guardian Angels Church, located at 2061 E. Henrietta Road, Rochester NY 14623. A luncheon will follow, celebrating a life well-lived and cherished by many. He will be sorely missed.

Sincere condolences to all of the family and friends. Jim was a distant cousin. I did not get to see him often, but it was always a joy when I did get to see him. He was a great conversationalist.
