Darrell Mantei

Darrell Mantei
Darrell Mantei passed August 24, 2018 away after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 50+ years, Barbara, a son Eric, daughter Beth, grandson Derek, two granddaughters Morgan and Elena, great granddaughter Josie and two sisters, Gale and Linda.  Darrell had a fine mind.  He was valedictorian of his 1955 Owego, NY high school class, graduated from the University of Buffalo with a degree in pharmacy and had a successful western NY business career as VP and board member of Peterson Drug Company and an owner of Love of Pete gift shops.
He was an avid reader, gardener of fruits and vegetables, hunter and fisherman with a love for nature and archaeology.  He collected a number of NY state Indian relics, including many arrowheads and other tools over the years.
Most of all, Darrell loved his family.  We’ll remember him often calling out, “Barb, what’s for dinner?”!  He will be greatly missed.  Most of all, Darrell loved his family.

I met Darrell as the father of Eric growing up.. One memory that sticks out when he was an umpire for Gasport Little League I was pictching and he was Umpiring. I was not doing very well and getting really mad at myself. He was talking to me in between pitches trying to calm me down and relax me. Awesome memory. Very sorry for your loss. 😔
