Donald Carl Reid passed away peacefully on July 3, 2024 at the age of 89.
He is survived by his wife & best friend of 65 years, Janet and their three sons and wives; John & Sheryl, Jim & Missy, Don & Lynn
7 grandchildren; Kyle, Keirsten, Markell, Hunter, Jerricho, Sara, Andy and wife Antonia; as well as his older brother Jerry Reid.
He is predeceased by his sister Barbara and her husband Roger Baker.
Don was a sergeant in the army and a 1956 graduate of Syracuse University in Business Administration. He worked 30 years at Kodak Park in the Industrial Relations Dept. and retired in 1986.
Don was an outstanding athlete and excelled in golf, football, baseball and basketball. He was Rochester All City Quarterback during his senior year at Charlotte High School, played semi-pro
basketball during his college years at Syracuse University and was a single handicap golfer most of his life. He and Janet were members of Webster Golf Club for many years.
Don was involved in the startup of the Irondequoit Hockey League in 1969 and coached hockey for several years. He was known for holding team practices on his backyard ice rink.
Don loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, taking the family to Post Lake Wisconsin on vacations every summer. There he passed that enthusiasm on to his children and grandchildren.
Don and Janet attended The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Irondequoit.
Friends and family are invited to join in a Celebration of Life Service to be held August 10th @ 11:00 AM at Risen Christ Lutheran Church, 1000 Mosley Rd. in Fairport NY.
Following the service a lunch reception will be held at John & Sheryl’s home nearby.

I absolutely adored my Big Don it didn’t matter if we were in Wisconsin or Florida or home I tried helping my Big Guy I really was lucky 🍀 enough to have another Father showing me how to fish right drive a boat with the motor in back and circles I did until he got in the boat with me and all the fish 🐠 he had to clean for me Big Don really was a gem in so many people’s world
