Joyce Purdy Cigna died peacefully on February 18, at age 92, after a short recurrence of a long-term illness.
Predeceased by husband Jerome Paul Cigna and son Jerome Paul Cigna Jr. She is survived by children Jennifer O’Shaughnessy (John O’Shaughnessy), Deborah Cigna, David Cigna, Amy Lewandowski (Peter Foos), and Judith Hubbard; grandchildren Kevin O’Shaughnessy (Abigail Goldberger), Christopher O’Shaughnessy (Iza Kruk), Matthew Lewandowski (Adriana Lewandowski), Cory Lewandowski (Summer Lewandowski), Robert Cigna and Elizabeth Druschel; by great grandchildren Maddie, Peyton, Shayna and Willow; and beloved cat Teddy.
Joyce was an avid gardener. She thoroughly enjoyed the many years she volunteered at the Rochester Civic Garden Center, and all the friends she made there. She spent many happy hours at the Greece YMCA, taking swimming exercise classes for many years and making some wonderful friends with the gals who attended. She was also a key volunteer in the award-winning community victory garden at the Y. She will be missed.
I’m so sorry for the loss of Joyce. I’ll always remember her as the ‘mother of the castle,’ and a cherished older member of RCGC. She inspired me with her tireless energy, keen interest in gardening and sharp wit.
