Melvin Lee Hammond was born in Crenshaw, Mississippi, June 20th, 1962 to Nathaniel Willis and Ethel Lee Trent. He was called home Saturday, July 14th, 2018. He was predeceased by his mother Ethel Lee Trent, Grandparents, George and Nina Hammond and Lily Mae McNease. Melvin moved from Mississippi with his parents to Chicago in 1966. Melvin later moved to Rochester, NY in 1973 where he worked various jobs. He was very talented at everything he did, but his passion was cooking. He also loved kids and spending time with his family. Melvin leaves behind his father, Nathaniel Willis, granddad, Felix Willis, his two children, Jemal and Tyron Hammond and Stepchildren, Tara and Lavar Lovely (Alesia Lovely), his Brother/Best Friend, Ron Trent (Ronise), 3 Sisters, Angela Becoats (Nate), Carmen Grice (Frank), Takiyah Locke (Scott), 5 Grandchildren, 10 Nieces and Nephews, 8 Great Nieces and Nephews, A host of close cousins, and Friends, Aunts, Stella Carter (Joe), Emily Carter, (Willie-predeceased) Joyce Bragg (Dwight), Velma Croft, Francis McNeese, and Uncles, Alvin Hammond (Tina), Givon Hammond (Essie), Robert Hammond (Marilyn), Edward Hammond (Jewel), Milton Hammond, Isiah Willis, Andrew McNeese, and John Jr. McNeese (Vivian).
His Visitation will be held Monday, July 23, 2018 11AM-12Noon, Funeral Service to follow at 12 NOON.
