PORTVILLE – Ruth Anna Richmond, of 90 S. Main St., Portville, passed away Tuesday (Dec. 26, 2017) at her daughter Elizabeth’s house, in East Rochester.
Born March 9, 1924, in Distant, Pa., she was the daughter of Charles and Flora McGuire Shreckengost. On Aug. 15, 1944, she married Leslie T. Richmond, who predeceased her in 2001.
Ruth was a graduate of New Bethlehem High School and Practical Bible School.
She worked for the former Acme Electric and Farnsworth Cookie Factory, both in Cuba. She was a seamstress for the former Bradner’s Department Store as well as Lenora’s Bridal Shop.
She was a member of the Portville Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and served on the missionary society.
Ruth enjoyed sewing and quilting, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her four daughters, Judith (Tom) Chaffee of Portville, Naomi (Clair) Bump of Portville, Rachel (Fred) Whitman of Perugia, Italy and Elizabeth (Ralph) Johns of East Rochester; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, she was predeceased by four brothers; three sisters; and one great-grandchild.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 21, 2018, with a dinner to follow at Portville Baptist Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
