Dear friends and family of dear Sven,
I just went on-line to look for Sven on the eve of his birthday, and found the news I feared I would find. Sven has been a treasured presence in my life since the late 1960’s. We shared the protests of that era, the faith path at the Ithaca Unitarian Church, and love of the arts. Sven always did things with love and care. In the Von Cramm residence hall where we both lived, the students were responsible for various tasks. When it was Sven’s turn to prepare food, he always warmed the plates. A small gesture maybe, but no one else did that, and it is always the little caring gifts that make a difference. Perhaps most significant, we shared a deeply meaningful and lasting relationship with our teacher Brother David Steindl-Rast. We shared an amazing weekend with him, a Hindu Swami, and a Jewish Rabbi. (Those were the days of Fr. Daniel Berrigan, who also stopped by.) That weekend in 1970 changed our lives. Knowing Sven changed my life. Staying in touch was more difficult after I moved to San Diego and both of us had health issues. But I still called from time to time, and our friendship remained strong. I won’t say I will miss him, because he is still with me. My care for him remains the same. I send that love to all of you who love Sven. Marla Stevens 619-461-3424
Sven was a great friend of my sister, Alison Palmer Heinicke. (1944-1989). He was such a caring and spiritual person. I am lucky to have some of his artwork.

Is this the Sven who was an Episcopal Priest and lived in Castleton Vt. at one time
Karleen, during the time I knew Sven in Rochester, he would talk about his life in Castleton. I’d say yes, this is the same Sven.
