Rochester, NY – Sylvia Kendrick Miller passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with a sudden illness on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the age of 85.
Survived by daughter, Tracy (Earl) Blackmon, grandchildren EJ Blackmon, Jada Blackmon and Paris Blackmon aka “Nana’s Sweetie Pie Poo Poo”, many nieces and nephews, and lifelong friend Jacqueline Whitney.
Born in Akron, Ohio to the late John Henry and Tomie Kendrick and was the youngest of 9 Children. Sylvia graduated from West High School, Akron, Ohio in 1953. She moved to Rochester, NY in 1964 joining Sisters Eula Brown, Janice Mouton and (SIL) Rebecca (Mckoy) Kendrick. She began her career as an Adult Education Instructor, later returning to college and graduating from the nursing program. Sylvia worked 20 plus years as an LPN and retired to care for her beloved grandchildren. They loved being with their “Nana” and were able to honor her by taking care of her during her final months.
Sylvia lived a life full of love, laughter, heartache, family and witty humor. She enjoyed reading, crosswords, mysteries, cooking, family gatherings, singing and often joked that she was “Waiting on Denzel Washington to become single”.
The family will be Honoring and Celebrating Sylvia in her home town of Akron, Ohio (Interment -Mount Peace Cemetery) at the end of May 2021.
